Art and design feature in every aspect of our daily lives from the cereal box we grab every morning to the table you eat them off, to the clothes you put on and the trainers you walk to school in – they’ve all been through an artistic process.
What are the specific entry requirements for this course? Grade 6 Art (or Grade 6 in a related creative subject) and Grade 4 in English Language
Why should I study this subject?
The Art Department gives students the opportunity to be creative by studying different disciplines of Art, Craft and Design. If you want to improve your artistic practice and enhance your technique in different artistic forms, this course is for you.
Studying Art and Design at A Level will give you an excellent grounding in drawing, painting, graphics, textiles, printing and 3D. You’ll also study the work of others, where you’ll discover more about the artist and the context they work from. This course allows you to develop your creative thinking and gives you the opportunity to work independently.
This course is a great way to learn new techniques and develop ideas. You’ll be encouraged to experiment and develop your own unique style.

In Year 12 Art you will develop your skills in a broad range of media, research the work of others and work independently to your chosen expedition theme. This will allow you to work independently, become self disciplined and work on your personal artwork (with continued support and guidance).
In Year 13 you will continue to learn new skills and develop your work through sustained investigations of the work of other artists. You will work in sketchbooks, study sheets and create maquettes for 3D work. This independent, creative work will lead to interesting and personal products that are developed from the depth of work that you have produced.
